Magnolia 'Butterflies'

Common Name: Butterfly Magnolia

Magnolia ‘Butterflies’ (Yellow Magnolia) is a deciduous small tree with an upright, pyramidal to broadly upright habit, featuring medium green foliage and large, upright, tulip-shaped canary-yellow flowers with a light lemon fragrance that appear in mid-spring before the leaves emerge. It is considered one of the better yellow magnolia selections and is especially valued for its clear flower color and elegant bloom form. Type: Tree (Deciduous) Mature Size: 10–15' W × 15–20' H USDA Zones: 5a–9b Form: Upright, pyramidal to broadly upright Light: Full sun to part shade Soil / Water: Rich, well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil; moderate water, prefers consistent moisture and good drainage Bloom Time / Length: April to May; about 1 week to 7–9 days Wildlife: Bees Features & Landscape Uses: Excellent as a specimen tree, accent tree, or focal point in smaller landscapes. The upright yellow blooms are held above bare branches before leaf-out, creating a very clean spring display. It also tolerates urban conditions and works well where a smaller flowering tree is needed. Care: Plant in full sun to part shade in fertile, well-drained soil with even moisture during establishment. Avoid wet or poorly drained sites, which can reduce performance. Prune only as needed after flowering
