A miniature deciduous shrub showing off its dramatic deep maroon purple teardrop-shaped leaves that become more intense in fall. It produces small yellow flowers in late spring followed by bright red berries. Deer resistant. It typically grows 2 ft high and spread 3 ft wide in rounded habit of growth. Full sun intensifies leaf color. Prefers rich,moist, fertile soil that drains well. Excellent selection for border, mass planting and rock garden.
