Nectarine Honeyglo Mini

Common Name: Honeyglo Mini Nectarine

Prunus persica var. nucipersica ‘HoneyGlo’ Stark® HoneyGlo™ Miniature Nectarine / HoneyGlo Mini Nectarine HoneyGlo Miniature Nectarine is a compact deciduous fruit tree grown for pink spring bloom and sweet, golden-fleshed nectarines on a true miniature patio-size tree. Stark Bro’s describes it as producing gourmet-quality, freestone fruit for fresh eating, cooking, and freezing. It was developed in Merced, California, introduced in 1981, and ripens in early August. Type: Deciduous miniature fruit tree Mature Size: Usually about 4–6 ft. wide × 4–6 ft. tall; suitable for an 18–24 in. container USDA Zones: 4a–8b Form: Miniature, compact, patio fruit tree Light: Full sun Soil / Water: Loamy, well-drained soil; regular water, especially during establishment and fruit development Bloom Time / Length: Mid-spring; pink flowers, usually 1–2 weeks Wildlife: Flowers attract bees and other pollinators; fruit may attract birds, squirrels, deer, and other wildlife Features & Landscape Uses: Good for patios, containers, small gardens, edible landscapes, and home orchards where a full-size nectarine would be too large. The fruit is red-skinned, medium-sized, firm-textured, sweet, and freestone. It is self-pollinating, so a second nectarine is not required, though another compatible peach or nectarine nearby may improve production. Stark lists 650 chill hours and fruiting in 2–4 years. Care: Plant in full sun with good air circulation. Use a large container with excellent drainage if growing as a patio tree. Water consistently during dry periods and fruit development. Prune in late winter or very early spring to remove dead, crossing, or crowded branches and to keep the tree open. Protect container-grown trees in colder zones by insulating the pot, mulching over the roots, or moving the container to a protected unheated area. Watch for peach leaf curl, brown rot, bacterial spot, aphids, scale, and peach tree borers.
