Common Name: Peony Coral Charm
Paeonia ‘Coral Charm’ is an award-winning herbaceous hybrid peony known for its large, semi-double, color-changing flowers. Rounded buds open deep coral-pink to coral-orange, then soften through salmon, peach, coral-cream, and pale ivory as the blooms mature. The flowers have a golden-yellow center and rise on sturdy stems above glossy, dark green foliage. It is an early-season peony and was awarded the American Peony Society Gold Medal in 1986. Type: Herbaceous perennial hybrid peony Mature Size: 30–36 in. wide × 28–36 in. tall USDA Zones: 3a–8b Form: Upright, bushy, clumping perennial with sturdy stems Light: Full sun to part shade; best flowering in full sun Soil / Water: Fertile, rich, evenly moist, well-drained soil; avoid wet, poorly drained sites Bloom Time / Length: Early season, late spring to early summer; usually about 7–10 days Wildlife: Flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects; generally deer and rabbit resistant Features & Landscape Uses: Excellent for perennial borders, cottage gardens, cutting gardens, specimen planting, mass planting, and mixed sunny beds. ‘Coral Charm’ is especially valued for its unusual coral coloring, strong stems, early bloom time, and excellent cut-flower quality. The flowers can last over a week in a vase when cut in bud. Care: Plant peony eyes about 1–2 inches below the soil surface; planting too deeply can reduce blooming. Provide good air circulation and water at the base when possible. Remove spent flowers after bloom, but leave the foliage through summer to feed the roots. Cut stems to the ground after frost in fall and remove old foliage from the garden. Peonies need winter chill to bloom well and may not flower reliably in zones 9–11.
