Paeonia 'Bowl Of Beauty'

Common Name: Peony Bowl Of Beauty

Paeonia lactiflora ‘Bowl of Beauty’ is a herbaceous perennial peony with large Japanese/anemone-form flowers. The blooms have bright fuchsia-rose outer petals that form a bowl around a fluffy center of pale lemon-yellow to creamy petaloids. It has strong stems, glossy green foliage, and an upright clumping habit. Registered in the Netherlands by Hoogendoorn in 1949, it is a well-known, showy garden peony and has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Type: Herbaceous perennial peony Mature Size: 30–36 in. wide × 24–36 in. tall USDA Zones: 3a–8b Form: Upright, bushy, clumping perennial Light: Full sun to part shade; best flowering in full sun Soil / Water: Fertile, rich, evenly moist, well-drained soil; avoid soggy or poorly drained areas Bloom Time / Length: Late spring to early summer; about 7–10 days, depending on weather Wildlife: Flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects; generally deer and rabbit resistant Features & Landscape Uses: Excellent for perennial borders, cottage gardens, cutting gardens, specimen planting, mass planting, and mixed sunny beds. ‘Bowl of Beauty’ is especially valued for its strong color contrast, large flowers, sturdy stems, and use as a cut flower. Plant with other early, midseason, and late peonies to extend the peony bloom season. Care: Plant peony eyes about 1–2 inches below the soil surface; planting too deep can reduce flowering. Provide good air circulation, water at the base when possible, and remove spent blooms after flowering. Leave foliage standing through summer so it can feed the roots, then cut stems to the ground after frost in fall and remove old foliage from the garden.
