Malus Jewelberry

Common Name: Jewelberry Crabapple

Malus ‘Jewelberry’ is a dwarf flowering crabapple prized for its deep pink buds that open to single white flowers, often with a faint pink blush in cool weather. This deciduous ornamental tree or large shrub has a densely branched, spreading habit, dark green foliage, and masses of small glossy red crabapples that mature in fall and often persist into late fall. It is especially useful where a broad, low crabapple is wanted for strong spring bloom and colorful fruit display. Type: Flowering crabapple tree Mature Size: 12' wide x 6–8' high USDA Zones: 4a–8b Form: Dwarf, spreading, densely branched Light: Full sun Soil / Water: Well-drained soil / moderate moisture Bloom Time / Length: Spring / 1–2 weeks Wildlife: Bees visit the flowers; fruit attracts birds. Features & Landscape Uses: Excellent for small gardens, island beds, slopes, foundation plantings, and other spaces where a wide, low ornamental tree is needed. The bright red fruit adds strong fall interest, and the spreading shape gives it a shrub-like presence in the landscape. Care: Plant in full sun with good air circulation for best flowering and fruiting. Water regularly during establishment, then during dry spells as needed. Prune in late winter to remove damaged, crossing, or crowded branches and to maintain its natural spreading framework.
