Magnolia grandiflora 'Bracken Brown Beauty'

Common Name: Bracken's Brown Beauty Magnolia

Magnolia grandiflora ‘Bracken’s Brown Beauty’ (Southern Magnolia) is a dense, evergreen tree with a narrow pyramidal to pyramidal-oval habit, featuring glossy dark green leaves with rich brown undersides and large, fragrant creamy white flowers from late spring into summer. It is valued for its handsome foliage, strong form, and better cold hardiness than many Southern magnolias. Type: Tree (Evergreen) Mature Size: 15–25' W × 20–30' H USDA Zones: 6a–9b Form: Dense, narrow pyramidal to pyramidal-oval Light: Full sun to part shade Soil / Water: Moist, organically rich, well-drained soils; moderate water, prefers consistent moisture during establishment Bloom Time / Length: Late spring through summer; main flush in late spring with sparse continued bloom through summer Wildlife: Bees, birds Features & Landscape Uses: Excellent as a specimen, screen, lawn tree, or evergreen accent. Its smaller leaves, compact habit, and reliable hardiness make it a strong choice where the species may be too large or less dependable. Care: Plant in a protected site with well-drained soil and room to mature. Water regularly while establishing, mulch the root zone, and prune only as needed to shape when young or remove damaged branches. Avoid prolonged drought and poorly drained sites.
